Sagem Orga opens new production centre in India





To answer local needs but also to serve south-east Asia, middle-east and Africa, Syscom, Sagem Orga Indian subsidiary, inaugurated on January 24th Asia's largest smart card manufacturing facility in Noida with the goal to double plant capacity in three years.

The new production facilities are located in Noida, a suburb of Delhi. Situated in an area of 8,000 sqm, the factory will produce 200 million cards in the first year. This site adds to the different production facilities, based in Germany, France, Brazil and Russia.

India: a market not to be missed
With 16% of the worldwide population, India is the second largest country after China. In November 2007, India had 220 million subscribers, becoming the third largest market in the world, after China and the USA. And still, with a penetration below 20%, India is the fastest growing market, with an average growing rate of 65 to 70% per year.

Research and development
Sagem Orga R&D centre in Delhi employs over 150 engineers who develop smartcard operating systems, dedicated tools and applications in the fields of mobile telecommunications, health, identity, transportations and banking. CDMA cards were also developed in India.

Sagem Orga, leader in the Indian mobile market
With a market share of 40%, Syscom is a well established leader, set up in 1996, that means since the very beginning of mobile telephony. Today (with Smartchip) it has 48 offices across India and employs a total of 900 engineers, sales, marketing and production staff. The company supplies SIM cards to all major operators: Vodafone, Bharti, Idea, Reliance, BSNL to name a few.
