Area and inhabitants
Covering an area of 4,765.65 km² with around 900,000 inhabitants, the Heilbronn-Franken region is the largest of the twelve regions of Baden-Württemberg in terms of area. Population density is 184 per km² (average in Germany: 228), with the proportion of non-Germans at 9.9%.
The Heilbronn-Franken region, reflecting the success of Baden-Württemberg, is home to technological leaders from the mobility sector, well-known throughout the world, and is one of the leading locations for process technology and production engineering, including the core sectors of mechanical and plant engineering, electrical engineering/electronics, automation and information technology.
Baden-Württemberg is a state that looks to the future - Heilbronn-Franken is an extremely dynamic region. Since 1970 the Heilbronn-Franken region has experienced the highest population growth (+22.2%; state average: +4.7%) and employment growth (+36.4%; state average: +13.4%). 431,000 have jobs in this region and the unemployment rate has been below the state average for many years.
One of the youngest populations in Germany lives in the Heilbronn-Franken region, with an average age of 39.6 (national average: 40.8) and a live birth rate of 1.5 per female (national average: 1.35 per female).
